Rudyard Kipling considered as a Science Fiction writer (by Fred Lerner) |
|
“...for Truth is a naked lady, and if by accident she is drawn up from the bottom of the sea, it behooves a gentleman either to give her a print petticoat or to turn his face to the wall and vow that he did not see”.A journalist himself, Kipling is naturally sensitive to the way in which the public receives and understands the news. As in the later “The Eye of Allah” he explores in this story the implications of bringing a scientific discovery to a public unprepared to deal with it.
