Technical requirements

THE KIPLING SOCIETY WEB-SITE

This site has been designed for display on a system with at least 256 colours at a minimum resolution of 640 x 480 pixels, running Windows 95 or above, with a 486 processor or above with a clock speed of at least 33MHz. Any Pentium system or equivalent will be fine.
In designing the site we have used 'frames' for ease of navigation, taking advantage of the free availability of the latest versions of the two main Web browsers, Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer. Both support the use of frames. To read our pages effectively you will need a system equipped with level 3 or above of either browser.
Both can be downloaded from the World Wide Web, from the sites below.

Our pages have been designed to be readable on a 640 x 480 or 800 x 600 screen display. If your system can be set to 800 x 600 this will give you a little more room. For maximum usable screen space it will also be helpful to customise your browser settings, closing the Address Bar and/or the Standard Buttons above, and the Status Bar below. If, though, you plan to download large files (such as the Journal Indexes) it is best to keep the Status Bar open so that you can keep track of the progress of downloads.
In Microsoft Internet Explorer these adjustments can be made from the View menu at the top of the browser window. The text is designed to be readable with the fonts set at 'Medium', 'Small' or 'Smallest'. In Explorer these can be set from Text Size in the View menu.
In Netscape Navigator, you can hide toolbars and change font sizes from the View menu. If you want to change the default font settings this can be done from the Edit menu, via Preferences/ Appearance/ Fonts.
Sections of the text can be freely downloaded, cut and pasted, or printed, for private use, using the facilities provided by the browser. All rights are reserved, however, and no other use may be made of the material on the site without prior permission in writing from the Kipling Society.
